Turning 65 or new to Medicare?

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for:

  • people 65 and older
  • people with certain disabilities
  • people with end-stage kidney failure.

There are several parts to Medicare, which are explained below. Understanding what these parts are and how they work, will help you make a more informed decision when you reach this stage of your life.

Part A

Part A covers inpatient care, which includes hospital care, hospice, care received at a skilled nursing facility and, in some cases, home health care.

Part B

Part B helps pay for services from doctors and other health care providers, outpatient care, home health care, durable medical equipment, and some preventive services

Part C

Part C (Medicare Advantage Plan) combines the services provided by Part A & B and usually includes Part D benefits (prescription drug coverage). Part C also provides additional benefits like dental, vision, and hearing.

Part D

Part D provides prescription drug coverage. Also known as Rx.
